If you are personally battling cancer or any other illness, I know that this book will inspire you. If you are providing care and support for a friend or loved one, this book will inspire and aid you. If you have experienced the passing of a loved one or friend into eternity, this book will provide you comforting insight. I am glad that I have read a book that reveals the deep emotional, psychological and spiritual turmoil, struggle and stand that this great hero of faith and many others have endured to bless others. I appreciate the profound education and insight that is unfolded on each page of this book. Alfreida Edelen gives us spiritual insight, medical understanding and practical wisdom for supporting those on the journey. ~ Pastor Charles Whitaker, River of Life Church, Marlow Heights, Maryland

“Almost every family has had a loved one or knows of someone who has been diagnosed with cancer. However, not enough is shared on the reality of living through the experience and devastation of such a diagnosis. What does one do when he or she receives such a report? In this book which I believe has been orchestrated by the Holy Spirit, you will not only receive life, peace, hope, healing and joy, but you will also find the hope of knowing that cancer is not always a death sentence. And, that’s good news! Alfreida brings us into her journey which ignites faith and courage in a God bigger than our affliction.” ~ Elder Janice Warren, Associate Minister, St. Stephen Baptist Church – Temple Hills, Maryland

“Confronting Breast Cancer, A Believer’s Journey” is an excellent book about a phenomenal woman’s journey through breast cancer. I have found that the book is also an inspirational book for anyone who is being confronted by one’s own life’s journey as a tool of spiritual guidance. As a professional in the field of Social Work the book is of great value within in our communities. This book will cause you to look within your community with a sense of awareness of the many types of illnesses that plaque our friends and family members that we so greatly love. The awareness and education is needed in our nation to educate people on all levels. Chapter Seven of the book, titled “A Call for Compassion” unfolds profound guidance to The Caregiver, Church, Community and Marketplace. Alfreida hits the nail on the head with bringing the readers into the heart and mind of those who have been plagued by any chronic or life changing illness and what the caregiver, church, community and marketplace can do to aid in their successes.
Further, she shares the importance of awareness and education of breast cancer which is has left thousands of children motherless. We have lost important models in our lives (grandmothers, wives, sisters and aunts). Prior to reading this book, I had never heard of triple negative disease as it relates to breast cancer which is common in most African American women. Without the education, awareness, and preventive methods (i.e. Healthy living, spiritual togetherness, dieting) our communities and family members are being faced with an uphill battle with no way to win. This book has ignited my passion as a support system for the children and families that I serve. It has enabled me to look and listen beyond the surface situations of my case clients. I now have a tool in my professional capacity that will assist me in being more effective in offering hope, encouragement and awareness to the families that I come in contact with. Thank you Alfreida, for sharing your amazing story! ~ Nakiia Newton, MSW, Baltimore, Maryland

Your website is lovely. Your words inspire me as always. Your a blessing and will be a blessing to many because of your walk with the Lord and the ability to love on people. ~ Priscilla Estes
CONFRONTING BREAST CANCER A BELIEVER’S JOURNEY
Book Review
Personally I am excited about this book that Alfreida Edelen has written. From the title of the book, all the way to the back cover of Alfreida book there’s an excellent flow. It is very rare to find a title that actually sticks and fit with what the book is mainly about. It is also rare to find a book that actually has God as the foundation, climax and ending. Alfreida has truly given God the praise and recognition he deserves for her deliverance. One of the things I like about a child of God is one that is transparent and isn’t afraid to say as a human I have struggles, discouragements and even days when my mind and body tries to get the best of me. Alfreida is among those that are transparent. In her book she will take you on an unforgettable journey. Edelen writing is so in-depth it makes the readers feel as though they are in the room with her on her bad days, good days and even in the room during her treatments. She quotes scriptures in which she used while walking her journey, scripture in which gives hope, determination, scriptures that we all can use as guidance for our everyday walk in life. Alfreida book flows clearly and she gets straight to the point of what she wants her readers to know about her journey.
Edelen also explains the different symptoms and side effects that can occur from treatment which I found very interesting and educational. As a woman it is important to learn and understand the things which are known to attack a woman’s body. Even if you haven’t been attacked with breast cancer it is best for one to learn from others journey to prepare themselves in case it does occur. Alfreida’s book can also help readers take their health seriously to the extent of ensuring getting check up for early detection of breast cancer or for any gender that has a certain health issue (Prostate for Men). I recommend this book to not just ladies but men as well. Although the physical aspect of this book is very important, she balanced it out by allowing us to view the spiritual aspect and how your spiritual connection with God can give you strength and make a difference in the way in which one handle their situations.
I am definitely eager to read Alfreida’s next book. I know what ever she writes she is going to give God the glory out of it.
